    ZARCDefend® ZK Anodes Series

    ZARCDefend® ZK Anodes Series

    ZARCDefend® ZK Product Line: -

The first integrated galvanic anode for concrete repair, the ZARCDefend® ZK anode series, is used to reduce ring anode corrosion or the halo effect while restoring reinforced concrete. The alkali-activated (Type 1ACC) anodes are made of high-purity zinc cast around a steel tie wire with an improved cement-based mortar that has an internal pH of 14 or higher. This maintains the zinc active throughout the life of the anode and is designed for optimal performance and simplicity of installation. ZARCDefend ZK comes in different types of sizes in order to facilitate the repair and offers a variety of spacing options.
Along the line where new and old concrete meets, the ZARCDefend ZK anode is swiftly and simply placed, and it is fastened to the exposed rebar using the Turn and Done™ single-wire connection. The zinc anode protects the nearby reinforcing steel by corroding preferentially once it is placed. For any design related details kindly verify the technical data sheet.
    Features and Benefits:
    •    Technology: ZARCDefend® ZK is the first integrated galvanic anode that has been successfully used for the last 20 years.
    •    High Endurance: By using industry-standard tables anodes have a minimum of 20 years' life which in turn reduces further repairs.
    •    Testing: Through testing, the service life of concrete repairs can be extended by more than 4 times.
    •    Type 1ACC Anode: Alkali activated Cementious Mortar to improve performance of Zinc, it complies with regulations by restricting purposefully added components that corrode reinforcement.
    •    Turn and Done®:   Single wire connection may be installed 2 times faster than the traditional method by saving the cost up to almost 50%.
    •    Zinc Cast Core – Its working principle is Galvanic series. Highest Purity Zinc with steel wire provides proper anode utilization and provides secure connection to the rebar.
    •    Non-toxic and safe for the environment: ZARCDefend® ZK is safe for the environment. There are no dangerous substances present that might contaminate the land or water nearby.
    •    Steel Contact: This prevents intervening components from compromising the long-term connection and assures the dependability of steel to steel connecting wires.
    •    Less Costly: It provides focused protection when it is most needed, such as during repairs to diseased concrete.
    •    No Maintenance Required: Once installed no separate power source is required. No external maintenance or monitoring required.
    •    ICRI CSP-3: In order to assist concrete and repair mortars that bond mechanically, ICRI CSP-3 (Concrete Surface Profile) increases surface profile repairs by supplying high ridges.
    •    Grooved Design - ZARCDefend® ZK 40, ZK 60, ZK 100, ZK 160, and ZK 330 anodes have grooved edges that help with stable anode placement.
    •    Greater tensile strength: ZARCDefend® ZK increases the tensile strength of concrete constructions by shielding the reinforcing steel bars from corrosion.

    Characteristics of Repair Materials
If you want to create an ionically conductive route from the anodes to the base for best results, use ZARCDefend® Embedding Mortar when grouting in anodes in drilled holes.
    Applications:
    1. Reduces the halo effect caused by ring anode rust in concrete restorations
    2. Bridge platform restorations, widening joint repairs, and other structural changes
    3. Concrete connections between new and old concrete, including parking decks, beam or column restorations, slab replacements, and other instances
    4. Repairing the foundations, beams, beam caps, and stones of the pier
    5. Concrete that has been post-tensioned and pre-stressed needs repair
    6. Guards steel reinforcement in fizzy or concrete polluted with chloride.

    Installation Instructions:
As per ICRI Guideline R310.1R, excellent concrete repair practices should be done. Every corroding rebar must be concrete removed inside and out. The steel reinforcement should be repaired before the anodes get fit. Anodes can be positioned on a grid to get a shield on a second mat of steel around the perimeter.

    Step1
Be sure to entirely encompass the anode in the repair while adequately fixing the anodes on the side beneath the exposed rebar as closely as possible to the surrounding concrete preferably within 4 in. (100 mm). The repair material should cover the anodes by at least 3/4 in (20 mm).
    Step 2
Twist the tie wires at least one full circle in opposing directions around the clean reinforcing steel.
    Step 3
Join the two free ends and tighten the twist.
    Step 4
Use a proper meter to continuously check the anode-to-steel and steel-to-steel inside the repair cavity. The Discontinuous steel has to be linked with steel wire before being retested. The result should be between 0 to 1 ohm.
    Step 5
Preserve and protect the anode and refrain from letting the anode units soak for more than 20 minutes if repair methods call for a concrete surface filled with water.
    Specification Clause:
An integrated double loop steel tie wire must be the center of embedded galvanic anodes, which must be pre-manufactured with zinc in the manner specified with ASTM B418 Type II and enclosed in a highly alkaline cementitious shell with a pH of 14 or above. According to ACI 562-13, Section 8.4.1, the anode unit must refrain from containing purposely introduced chloride, bromide, or other components that corrode reinforcing steel.
    Storage:
In the original unopened box keep it dry and stay away from temperature and humidity extremes. Anodes should be Installed within 2 years.

    Health and Safety:
With any cement-based products, contact with moisture can result in the production of alkalis and damage the skin. Appropriate gloves and other protective elements while handling ZARCDefend anode and ZARCDefend Embedding Mortar in line with industry standards. Safety Data Sheet is present where additional safety information is.
